You’re Not Too Late to Begin

This Week Off the Mat

I joined my pottery class one week late.

I didn’t even know about it until after the first session.
I could have said, “Oh well. I missed it.”

Instead, something inside me said, really? So what.

It’s pottery.
It’s art.
It’s for fun.

And even if it weren't, would missing one class stop me from beginning?

No.

What struck me most wasn’t the clay.

It was being a beginner again.

Not knowing where to put my coat.
Where my bag went.
How the wheel worked.
What tools to gather.

There was no checklist handed to me.

I was guided.
Hands in the clay.
Learning by feeling.

It reminded me how often we think we need to be “ready” before we begin.

When really, we just need to show up.

Nervous System Note

Here’s something I see often:

We tell ourselves it’s too late.
Too messy.
Too inconvenient.

And underneath that is something deeper.

Sometimes it’s not your nervous system abandoning you.

It’s you abandoning yourself.

Saying yes when you mean no.
Postponing your own time.
Waiting for the “perfect” moment to begin.

Your nervous system doesn’t need perfection.

It needs consistency.

Small proof that you are listening.

Your Pause Practice

This week, keep it simple.

The next time you feel rushed or pulled in too many directions:

1 - Set a timer for 3 minutes.

2 - Sit back in your chair. Feet on the floor.

3 - Close your eyes.

4 - Take slow, steady breaths.

5 - Let your shoulders soften.

6 - When the timer ends, go back to what you were doing.

That’s it.

No journaling.
No fixing.
No solving.

Three minutes.

This is how you begin again.

Hello Reader, This week I have been talking about believing in yourself.About stopping the explaining.About trusting your own authority. Sometimes believing in yourself looks like this: Not saying yes. Not rescheduling your hair appointment. Not canceling your yoga class. Not squeezing in one more thing. Sound familiar? “Yes, I can do that.”“Yes, give me ten minutes.”“Yes, I’ll be right there.” Those yeses add up. Overwhelm.Stress.Resentment. Supporting the people we love matters. But we have to...

Hi Reader, I love an unpopular opinion especially when it goes against the norms of your own industry. So here’s one of mine. You’ve probably heard people say that support, rest, or care has to be something you “figure out on your own.” Here’s my hot take: I don’t think that’s true. I don’t think we’re meant to stumble into support by accident. And I don’t think it should feel like luck when we finally find someone who helps us slow down, breathe, and feel steady again. What does matter is...

Hi Reader, Last week we spoke about the nervous system reset, small pauses, gentle breath, and ways to slow down in the middle of your real life. I loved hearing from so many of you. So this week, I want to follow up with something simple and meaningful. Because pauses are beautiful…and practicing them together can be even more supportive. Introducing the Restored Group Club I’m so happy to finally share the details with you. Restored Group Club is a virtual group designed around one thing: ✨...
