You’re Not Too Late to Begin

This Week Off the Mat

I joined my pottery class one week late.

I didn’t even know about it until after the first session.
I could have said, “Oh well. I missed it.”

Instead, something inside me said, really? So what.

It’s pottery.
It’s art.
It’s for fun.

And even if it weren't, would missing one class stop me from beginning?

No.

What struck me most wasn’t the clay.

It was being a beginner again.

Not knowing where to put my coat.
Where my bag went.
How the wheel worked.
What tools to gather.

There was no checklist handed to me.

I was guided.
Hands in the clay.
Learning by feeling.

It reminded me how often we think we need to be “ready” before we begin.

When really, we just need to show up.

Nervous System Note

Here’s something I see often:

We tell ourselves it’s too late.
Too messy.
Too inconvenient.

And underneath that is something deeper.

Sometimes it’s not your nervous system abandoning you.

It’s you abandoning yourself.

Saying yes when you mean no.
Postponing your own time.
Waiting for the “perfect” moment to begin.

Your nervous system doesn’t need perfection.

It needs consistency.

Small proof that you are listening.

Your Pause Practice

This week, keep it simple.

The next time you feel rushed or pulled in too many directions:

1 - Set a timer for 3 minutes.

2 - Sit back in your chair. Feet on the floor.

3 - Close your eyes.

4 - Take slow, steady breaths.

5 - Let your shoulders soften.

6 - When the timer ends, go back to what you were doing.

That’s it.

No journaling.
No fixing.
No solving.

Three minutes.

This is how you begin again.

This Weeks Off The Mat Hello Reader, There’s a shift that changes everything and it’s not moving forward… it’s going back. Back to the beginner class. In Today’s Edition The gift of returning to the basics Why repetition is where real practice begins Knowing when it’s time to ask for support Making Time for Yoga We often think the next level means doing more, learning more, advancing. But the reel shift happens when we return to the basics. Repetition is not accidental. It is intentional. The...

Off the MatWelcome to Still Point Sundays Hello Reader, There is a quiet moment right now just at the edge of winter and spring. The light is shifting. The days are stretching. And yet, something in you may feel slower. This is not something to fix. This is something to honor. Nature does not rush this transition and neither should you. This is your Still Point.A space where nothing is fully blooming yet, but everything is gently awakening beneath the surface. If your energy feels different,...

This Week Off the Mat Let’s clear something up. Yoga was never about touching your toes. It was never about the “full expression.” And it was never about getting it right. Somewhere along the way, it turned into performance. Women come to me thinking… They’re not flexible enough… They’re behind… They’re doing it wrong… The yoga industry has been selling you performance. Perfect lines.Full expressions.Flexibility as proof of worth. And quietly, women internalized it. “If I can’t do the full...
